Sierra Madre : Anti-Graffiti Law OKd
The Sierra Madre City Council last week gave tentative approval to a tough new anti-graffiti law similar to ordinances in several other San Gabriel Valley cities.
The council Tuesday voted unanimously to require property owners to remove graffiti within seven days of receiving a city notice, or face a $100 fine.
The law also would penalize parents of children who scrawl graffiti with fines up to $10,000, and would prohibit minors from carrying graffiti implements such as wide-tip markers, aerosol spray paint and engraving tools.
Businesses selling such graffiti tools must keep them locked up and cannot sell them to minors.
The law is expected to get final approval Oct. 11 and be implemented in late November. In September, Pasadena and Alhambra implemented similar laws, the latest San Gabriel Valley cities to do so.
