Malibu : Meals on Wheels Wins Grant

Share

The Malibu City Council has awarded $4,000 to the Santa Monica/Malibu Meals on Wheels program to help operate and expand the low-cost meal service in Malibu.

The Meals on Wheels program provides 70 meals per week to senior citizens in Malibu and to residents who are sick or disabled. The meals, which are delivered twice daily on weekdays, are supplied by Pepperdine University Food Services under a contract with the Marriott Corp.

The group is one of seven this year that received a total of $103,474 in federally funded grants earmarked for programs for low- and moderate-income residents. Nearly $17,000 remains to be distributed. Earlier this summer, the council awarded grants to: the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s SANE program, the Point Dume Community Service After-School Day Care and Summer Day Camp, Circle X Malibu Kid’s Camp, Malibu Community Labor Exchange, Malibu Westside Fair Housing Council, and the Malibu Community Resources Officer program.
