Surgin Surgical Wins $58 Million: An Orange County Superior Court judge awarded Surgin Surgical Instrumentation Inc., a Placentia surgical equipment maker, more than $58 million in a lawsuit against an affiliate of Farmers Insurance Group. The judge found that Truck Insurance Exchange of Los Angeles acted in bad faith by not representing Surgin properly when it was hit with two patent infringement lawsuits. As a result, Surgin said it lost more than $12 million in profits when it was forced to stop making a device used in cataract surgery. Truck Insurance officials denied any wrongdoing and vowed to appeal the decision.
