MISSION VIEJO : Driving Class for Elderly to Be Offered

A driving class for senior citizens will take place at two locations in South County next week.

Called “55 Alive,” the low-cost driving course will be held over two days starting Monday at the San Clemente Senior Center, 242 Avenida del Mar, (714) 498-3322, from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m. The Norman P. Murray Community and Senior Center, 24932 Oso Viejo, Mission Viejo, (714) 348-2063, also will hold a two-day class beginning Monday from 8 a.m. to noon.

Department of Motor Vehicles certification good for automobile insurance discounts is issued at the conclusion of the class. Cost for participating in the American Assn. of Retired Persons class is $8. Preregistration is required.

Students must be at least 50 years old, although they must be 55 or older to qualify for insurance discounts.

Two more sessions will be held later this month. On Oct. 20 and Oct. 27, the class will be given at the Capistrano Bay Park and Recreation Center, 35052 Del Obispo St., (714) 496-4251, in Dana Point from 9:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The Laguna Niguel Senior Center at 27261 La Paz Road, Unit I, (714) 362-2807, will offer the class on Oct. 25 and Oct. 26 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

For more information or preregistration, AARP organizers ask that drivers call the locations where the classes are to take place.
