Ferry Capsizes Off South Korea; 150 Are Missing
More than 150 people were missing after a ferry carrying about 200 passengers and crew capsized in rough seas off the west coast of South Korea today, police and state television said.
The Korea Broadcasting System said 43 people on board the 110-ton Seohae were rescued by other boats off Puan, 135 miles south of Seoul.
State television quoted witnesses as saying about 20 bodies were seen floating.
A Puan police officer said the ferry, carrying about 200 passengers and crew, flipped over in bad weather with high waves while cruising off Puan. He refused to give further details.
KBS earlier reported that about 300 people were on board.
State television said rescuers in boats and helicopters were headed for the site but rough weather complicated the operation.
