Storm Dumps Snow in Tahoe Area; I-80 Closed

TRUCKEE — An early-season storm left up to three inches of new snow in parts of the Lake Tahoe area over the weekend, and closed Interstate 80 over Donner Summit in the first weather-related traffic problems of the season.
The California Highway Patrol said the eastbound lanes of I-80 over the summit were closed for about 35 minutes Sunday morning when snow sent cars spinning out of control.
“It snowed for just an hour this morning,” a CHP dispatcher said. “They closed the highway until the road could be cleared of the cars. It was a mess up there for a while.”
The weather should begin clearing out today and stay dry through the week, said Patrick Sneeringer, a U.S. Weather Service meteorologist in Reno.
