Right Words Hit the Target

Suzanne Brierley works as a consultant helping singles attract the kind of mate they want, including writing personal ads. When she ran her own personal ad, she wrote two different versions which she placed in the same publication. Her Priscilla Presley Look-Alike ad drew 125 responses; the Auburn-Haired Beauty ad drew 65 responses.

Each version attracted a completely different type of man, she says.

“One ad was kind of intimidating and it attracted the kind of guy who wants to have a lot of fun but doesn’t want to get married,” she says. “The other one said that I was a single mom, which I am, and made me sound more down-to-earth. It made me seem more approachable. The men said that I sounded like a real human being. And the ones that answered it were the more marriageable types of guys.”
