Microsoft to Trim Work Force: The nation’s largest computer software maker said it will make some staff cuts as part of a redeployment of workers in its Windows software operations. At the same time, the company denied a report in the Wall Street Journal that as many as 700 people, or 5% of Microsoft’s work force of 14,400, could lose their jobs. The cuts affect employees working on the current version of Windows NT, a network-based version of the graphics software used to operate personal computers.
