Lawsuit Filed Against Abbott Labs Over Antibiotic: The suit, filed in Chicago, contends that the drug maker withheld information about the dangerous side effects of Omniflox, an antibiotic pulled from the market last year after it reportedly killed three people. Omniflox, which has a chemical name of temafloxacin, was used to treat infections of the lower respiratory system, urinary tract, prostate gland and skin. Plaintiffs Jimmie Sumpter of Wheaton, Ill., and Pamela Haskins of Orlando, Fla., claim they suffered breathing difficulties after taking Omniflox. Haskins also complains of a severe and persistent body rash. Abbott withdrew Omniflox from the market in June, 1992, five months after it was approved by the Food and Drug Administration.
