Bail Denied to Couple Held in Child’s Death

A Torrance couple will remain in jail in Louisville, Ky., until they are tried on charges that they lied to the FBI about the disappearance of their deceased 5-year-old daughter, a magistrate ruled.

U.S. Magistrate William Clark ordered Thomas and Roxanne Suleski detained until their Dec. 13 trial, saying that they were a flight risk.

The FBI says Roxanne Suleski’s 16-year-old daughter has accused the pair of abusing and killing their daughter, Alex Suleski.

The Suleskis told the FBI in 1989 that Alex had gone outside to play and never returned. The FBI charges that the Suleskis knew the child was dead.

The couple were arrested last month in Los Angeles, near where the family moved a year after Alex’s disappearance. Officials in Hardin County, Ky., have said they plan to seek an indictment on murder charges.

In ruling against bail, Clark noted the Suleski’s failure to notify the FBI--which was still looking for Alex--of their cross-country move from Radcliff.
