NATION IN BRIEF : TEXAS : Senator’s Indictment Will Be Dropped
From Times Staff and Wire Reports
Ethics charges against U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison will be dropped, and a new grand jury will be asked to indict her again, a prosecutor said. Hutchison’s case and about 300 others were called into question because a member of the grand jury that indicted her was facing an outstanding theft charge. The Travis County district attorney said he will file motions to dismiss all of the grand jury’s pending indictments. State law bars someone facing a theft charge from serving on a grand jury.
