Not Just a Frog, But a Way of Life

So now it’s Kermit, frog philosopher and amphibian-around-town, as celebrity author.

His Greenness is, of course, a talk-show natural, having been upstaging hosts since he was a mere tadpole more than 30 years ago.

At 1 p.m. on Halloween, Kermit will hop into the Central Library to help celebrate publication of “For Every Child, A Better World,” in which multicultural Muppets illustrate Kermit’s words of wisdom about children’s rights to such basics as food, clean air, dignity and peace. (Partial proceeds will go to the United Nations.)

Recently, Kermit let Jane Henson, widow of Muppet creator creator Jim Henson, share the lime(green)light at a library lecture, during which she confirmed that Kermit was originally a lizard.

Guests left with copies of Kermit’s other new tome, “One Frog Can Make a Difference: Kermit’s Guide to Life in the ‘90s,” wherein he observes:

On fairy tales: “Imagine going through your whole life terrified that women of all ages (and species) will pick you up and kiss you, just on the off chance. . . .”

On amphibian awareness: “Fewer frogs are getting dissected in high schools . . . which is fine with me.”

On male bonding: “Do you think our male ancestors hopped around the swamps with bongos, trying to get in touch with their inner selves?”
