CITY COUNCIL

* STORM DRAINS: Approved spending an additional $110,700 for storm drain improvements adjacent to West Hollywood. The payment is part of an agreement between the city and county to increase storm drain capacity in the area. The work was performed by the county. The city’s initial share was $338,000.

* STOREFRONT: Approved an agreement with the Los Feliz Improvement Assn. to sublease storefront property at 2134 Hillhurst Ave. for the Police Department to use as part of community-based policing efforts. The storefront will increase police presence and serve as a site for citizen contact. The sublease is $1 for one year.

* APPOINTMENT: Approved the appointment of Patricia M. Duff of Bel-Air Estates to the Commission on the Status of Women.

HOW THEY VOTED

How Westside representatives voted on selected issues.

* SHERATON TOWNHOUSE: Approved a proposal blocking the demolition for an additional 180 days of the Sheraton Townhouse Hotel on Wilshire Boulevard. The current owner, a Japanese company, wants to level the 13-story neoclassical building. In April, the council declared the hotel a landmark, which delayed the proposed demolition until Oct. 31. PASSED: 14-0.

VOTING YES: Marvin Braude, Ruth Galanter, Jackie Goldberg, Nate Holden, Mark Ridley-Thomas, Zev Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: John Ferraro.

* NAME CHANGE: Approved changing the name of Sentous Street between 11th Street and Pico Boulevard to Cherry Street. The general manager of the Los Angeles Convention Center Department requested the change. The change will provide one continuous name and make it easier for the public to locate the Convention Center expanded facilities that are scheduled to open to the public Nov. 17. PASSED: 14-0.

VOTING YES: Braude, Ferraro, Galanter, Goldberg, Ridley-Thomas and Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Holden.

* MUSIC AWARDS: Approved waiving $28,212 in city fees and overtime costs for traffic officers for the 21st American Music Awards on Feb. 7 at the Shrine Auditorium. The event is sponsored by Dick Clark Productions Inc. PASSED: 10-3.

VOTING YES: Goldberg, Holden and Ridley-Thomas.

VOTING NO: Braude, Galanter and Yaroslavsky.

ABSENT: Ferraro.
