From Times Staff and Wire Reports

Renewed fighting broke out between rival subclans in Mogadishu as American troops unloaded heavy armor at the port. Rocket-propelled grenades exploded in a residential neighborhood, and two Somalis were killed in a shootout over a hijacked vehicle, ending a two-day lull. Washington said it is sending the armor, including 34 Bradley fighting vehicles, 19 Abrams M1 tanks and eight self-propelled howitzers, plus additional troops to protect the 4,000 American soldiers and 25,000 other U.N. troops there.
