Claremont : Pitzer Chosen for Diversity

Share

Pitzer College is one of 20 colleges and universities nationwide selected as a model of diversity for other institutions.

The American Assn. of Colleges will match each of the 20 models with other colleges seeking to diversify their programs. The model schools will work with other colleges for two years to develop programs and curriculum that include diverse racial, ethnic and gender perspectives.

One of the college’s projects focuses on studying race relations in the Alhambra Unified School District, where an influx of Asian students has changed the nature of the once primarily Latino area.

Also, as a recipient of a Ford Foundation Diversity grant in 1988, Pitzer’s faculty has revised traditional core courses and developed new programs that address issues of cultural pluralism from multiple perspectives.

Pitzer, a private liberal arts school, is part of The Claremont Colleges.
