Raytheon Co. has announced it will cut 1,150 jobs in Massachusetts, part of a plan to reduce costs to cope with shrinking U.S. military spending. . . . Chevron Overseas Petroleum Ltd. announced Sunday it had signed a contract to explore for oil and gas in a 700-square-mile area of the East China Sea. . . . Alaska has reached an agreement with Unocal over disputed taxes for 1983 through 1986, state officials said. Under the settlement, Unocal will pay $42.2 million. . . . The federal government fined Continental Airlines $20,000 for deceptively advertising low fares when few or no seats were available at the bargain price, the Department of Transportation said. . . . Japan’s Construction Ministry will create a committee to help ensure that government ministries and agencies aren’t giving preferential treatment to any companies bidding for public works projects, the Nihon Keizai newspaper said.
