NATION IN BRIEF : NEW YORK : Bomb Suspect Tried Suicide, Lawyer Says

A defendant awaiting trial in the bombing of the World Trade Center tried to kill himself at the Manhattan federal prison where he is being held, his lawyer said. Bilal Alkaisi, 27, is charged with aiding in the Feb. 26 bombing that killed six and injured more than 1,000 people. He is to be tried separately after the completion of the trial of four defendants now under way.
