The intricate melodies of the Baroque period will fill St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rancho Palos Verdes tonight when the Harmonia Baroque Players presents “A Journey in Baroque Europe.”

Since 1984 , the group has performed the music written for small ensembles in the 17th and early 18th Centuries. Tonight’s concert will include music from Germany, Italy, Belgium, England, Spain and France.

The group performs both popular works and lesser-known masterpieces.

The instrumental makeup of the Harmonia Baroque Players--recorders, oboe, violin, cello and harpsichord--lends itself to a variety of pieces. The versatile ensemble performs as a duet, trio, quartet and quintet.

The Harmonia Baroque Players have performed on numerous chamber music series in Southern California, and give public concerts regularly at universities, colleges, libraries, churches and community centers. They also have been heard on KUSC.

The ensemble will be performing through the end of the year and the beginning of the next in Palos Verdes, Newport Beach, Pasadena, Sun Valley and Palmdale.

The concert begins at 7 p.m. St. Paul’s is at 31290 Palos Verdes Drive South, east of the Golden Cove Shopping Center at Hawthorne Boulevard.
