TUSTIN : Council OKs Plan for Weight Room
The City Council has approved a proposal to construct a weight room for the Police Department in the basement of the Civic Center parking structure.
Convened as the Redevelopment Agency, the council Monday authorized city staff to seek out bids for the project. The estimated $20,000 cost would be funded with the city’s share of money seized from drug dealers.
City Manager William A. Huston said that bids will be opened Jan. 3, 1994. The contract will be awarded by Jan. 17, he said.
All city employees will be allowed to use the weight room, which will occupy about 870 square feet of the parking structure’s basement, Huston said in a report to the council.
Adequate parking will remain for city vehicles, he said. Air conditioning, fire alarm, telephone and electrical outlets will be provided.
The Police Department will provide the athletic equipment and rubber floor mats once the facility is built, Huston said.
