Countywide : St. Joseph Offers Free Medical Exams

Share

Previewing a program that hospital officials say will embrace the federal call for inexpensive health screening, Blue Cross of California and St. Joseph Hospital in Orange will offer free checkups this week.

The 20-minute checkups include tests for hypertension, high cholesterol, skin cancer, glaucoma, body fat levels, heart rate, and any ailments of the lymph nodes, thyroid, abdomen, mouth and ears.

The free exams will be offered today, Thursday and Friday by appointment only. More than a health bargain, the free checkup days are meant to herald the upcoming debut of St. Joseph’s Check-Up Center at the facility’s Outpatient Pavilion, officials said.

About 150 hospitals statewide are participating in the program, which falls in line with the new American Health Security Act and its call for inexpensive health care screenings. Checkups at the center will typically cost $20 or less.

At St. Joseph, the Check-Up Center will be set up the third Wednesday of each month, and exams will be performed from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. For appointments at St. Joseph or the nearest hospital participating in the program, call the statewide toll-free number, (800) 274-9355.

This week’s free health screenings will be offered from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the lobby area of the Outpatient Pavilion, 1140 West La Veta Ave. at Pepper Street in Orange. For more information, call (714) 744-8700.
