World IN BRIEF : IRAQ : Iraq Reiterates Claim to Kuwait

Iraq reiterated its claim to Kuwait and denounced what it called provocations by the emirate. A signed article in the government newspaper Al Jumhuriyah spoke of aims to “liberate” Kuwait in the future. The article by the paper’s editor in chief, Salah Mukhtar, called for punitive measures in response to what he described as “the provocative behavior of Kuwait rulers that includes flagrant violations of Iraq.” Tension on the border has heightened in recent weeks.
