DOWNTOWN : Seminar to Focus on Assertiveness

Women can learn about assertive communication skills at a daylong seminar Wednesday at the Westin Bonaventure hotel.

The seminar will include lessons in communicating with composure during conflicts and dealing effectively with contentious people; influencing and persuading co-workers, bosses, customers and employees, and presenting yourself and your ideas confidently.

The workshop is offered by SkillPath, a company that provides professional improvement courses to companies and communities nationwide. Although the workshop emphasizes women, the lessons can also apply to men, who are invited to attend, organizers said.

The seminar will be from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the hotel, 404 S. Figueroa St., and costs $59.
