Hunger in O.C.

Share

* Your Nov. 26 Orange County section has captured the sad shape of our priorities this holiday season. Running side by side, an article describing women “roughing” it while waiting in line to spend thousands of dollars on designer knits contrasted sharply with its adjacent story about the Food Distribution Center needing additional help and donations to supply those less fortunate with a more basic necessity: food.

While one may argue that clothing is indeed one of our more basic requirements, it is a glaring fact that the price tag of any one of those dresses could feed a family of four for a month. According to your article on the food center, “400,000 people in Orange County are at risk every night of going to bed hungry”.

I can’t help but wonder--are we so blind that we cannot see that the true celebration of the holidays comes from giving and not getting?
