Volunteers Can Adopt Parks Under Program

Share

Moorpark residents, business owners, nonprofit groups and schools will be able to “adopt” city parks under a new program approved by the Moorpark City Council this week.

The city’s “Adopt A Park” initiative will provide a method for volunteers to maintain or contribute to the upkeep of the city parks.

Projects that fall under the new program include the replanting of flower beds or trees, painting or refurbishing play equipment, litter control and making financial or labor contributions to park improvements.

“I like the concept,” Mayor Paul Lawrason said Thursday. “Certainly in today’s environment you take all the help you can get.”

Christine Adams, the city’s director of community services, brought the idea to the council after it was suggested by Parks and Recreation Commissioner Debi Ulis-Judd. The council asked Adams to get the program up and running.
