Jackie Mason

Why don’t we just keep beating the horse? Isn’t it enough that we have already rewritten the English language in attempt not to offend anyone? The “politically correct” attitude that is sweeping our nation has gotten out of hand. I often find myself hesitating in a conversation to make sure that my dialect is non-offensive to the one I am addressing.

Reading “Jackie Mason: Mining the ‘Politically Incorrect’ ” (Nov. 22), I was shocked. Mason was feeling heat over referring to New York Mayor David Dinkins as a shvartzer , a Yiddish term for black that some contend is insulting.

Since when have comedians of America not been offensive? Comedians such as Eddie Murphy, Andrew Dice Clay and, of all people, Howard Stern pride themselves on being offensive. Should we really be spending so much time and energy contemplating this? I think that there are more pressing issues facing America than the routine of a revered comedian.
