Coach George Perles doesn’t want to hear about his Michigan State team cast in the role of spoiler against Wisconsin in Tokyo on Sunday (tonight at 8 PST).

The 10th-ranked Badgers, 8-1-1 and 5-1-1 in the Big Ten, need a victory to earn their first trip to the Rose Bowl since 1962. If they lose, Ohio State will represent the Big Ten.

“We’re not playing this game for anybody but ourselves,” said Perles, whose Spartans are 6-4 and headed for the Liberty Bowl against Louisville. “We’re not doing anybody’s work for them. We’re going into this game the same way we go into any other game. We want to win.”

The NCAA has denied Alabama’s appeal to restore the eligibility of Antonio Langham, ending the college career of one of the country’s top defensive backs.

The decision makes Langham, the Crimson Tide’s career interception leader, ineligible for the Southeastern Conference championship game today against ninth-ranked Florida (9-2). He also is barred from No. 16 Alabama’s (8-2-1) bowl game, either the Sugar or Gator.

Langham was declared ineligible last week after a Washington-based sports agent, Darryl Dennis, claimed to have signed the player to a contract shortly after the Crimson Tide’s victory over Miami in the Sugar Bowl last season.

Army fullback Akili King has a pulled hamstring and is questionable for today’s 94th meeting between the Cadets (5-5) and Navy (4-6) at East Rutherford, N.J. The series is tied, 43-43-7. . . . Cincinnati Coach Tim Murphy, who has a 17-37-1 record in five seasons with the Bearcats, has accepted the head coaching job at Harvard, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported.
