1812 Veteran Reburied; Teen-agers to Study His Life
Associated Press
KILLINGLY, Conn. —
Oliver Covell can rest in peace again.
Covell, a farmer and War of 1812 veteran who died at age 67 in 1852, was reburied Saturday with full military honors in a flag-draped casket, seven months after his remains were dug up by four curious teen-agers.
The four were arrested after one of them took the skull to school and placed it on a desk. A judge sentenced them to research Covell’s life and pay for the reburial as part of their probation.
