Maybe the Indianapolis Colts should move to the Meadowlands, where they beat the New York Jets for the fifth time in a row.

The 9-6 victory Sunday at Giants Stadium ended the Jets’ five-game winning streak.

The Jets outgained the Colts by 98 yards, had eight more first downs and owned the ball for more than 35 minutes. They also made the kind of mistakes the Colts have been known for this season.

So the Colts ended a four-game losing streak by getting a 38-yard field goal by Dean Biasucci with one second remaining.

“I have no idea why it happens here, but I’m glad it does and I hope it keeps happening,” said Biasucci, who had no problems with the swirling wind, while Jet kicker Cary Blanchard missed two long attempts.

“It wasn’t tough kicking today for me,” Biasucci said. “I was concerned with the winds before I stepped on the field, not when I got on the field.”

After New York stopped Indianapolis on fourth down at the Jets’ 31 with 1:16 left, Eugene Daniel intercepted Boomer Esiason’s slightly tipped pass on the next play and returned it 17 yards.

A late hit by Jet tackle Siupeli Malamala added 15 yards and set up Biasucci for his third field goal of the game.

“There’s no reason we win here,” Daniel said. “You always wish you could bottle any win, regardless of how it comes.”

This one came almost as a gift for the Colts, who came in ranked last in the league defensively, had lost seven of their last eight games and were embarrassed, 31-0, by San Diego last Monday night.

“It’s a great feeling to come back and win when they’ve counted you out,” Coach Ted Marchibroda said. “It’s always a great victory for you when you believe in yourself and don’t give up.”

It was the third 9-6 victory for Indianapolis (4-8) this season and the sixth game in which the Colts failed to score 10 points. The Jets, losing to the Colts for the 11th time in 14 games, fell to 7-5.

“It was bad,” Esiason said. “The defense held them to three points and we gave them six more on interceptions. No one feels worse, no one feels more responsible.”

It was a typical mistake-filled game between these teams, who have had previous epics such as 6-3 and 10-6 last year, 10-6, 10-8, 6-0 and 9-5 in other seasons.
