Mary Alice (Melly) Sutherland has been named managing director for development of the Orange County Performing Arts Center in Costa Mesa. Sutherland, 50, will assume the restructured post on Jan. 1, filling a vacancy left by the resignation of Richard Tripp who until September was the center’s vice president for development. Since last year, Sutherland has been associate vice president for development of Save the Children, a charity based in Connecticut. Before that she held development jobs with the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, both in New York City.
