Luther Medical Names New President

Luther Medical Products Inc. said Tuesday it has selected veteran medical-products company executive David Rollo as its new president.

Rollo was also appointed a director of the Tustin-based company, which makes catheters and nervous-system testing equipment. Ronald B. Luther, who founded the company and had served as interim president, will continue as chairman.

Luther Medical said that Rollo, 52, of Dana Point, has 17 years of experience as a manager for manufacturers of medical devices.

Rollo was most recently president of Homostatic Surgery Corp., a San Francisco manufacturer of surgical instruments. Previously, he was president of Cordis Pacing Systems, a heart pacemaker company in Miami that merged with Teletronics Inc. of Denver.

Luther Medical was founded in 1980 as a catheter designer and manufacturer. It grew rapidly in 1987 after introducing a catheter that allows medical workers to avoid being stuck by needles when they start an intravenous flow. The product, now made and marketed by a Johnson & Johnson unit, is designed to prevent accidental exposure to the AIDS virus or other infectious diseases.

For its latest fiscal year, Luther Medical had revenue of $4.1 million.
