Long Beach : Council Approves Study of Renewal District
The City Council will spend $285,000 on a study to determine whether to establish a redevelopment district in North Long Beach.
The council could approve the district within a year, but not before a series of public hearings on the issue.
The redevelopment district would include most of the properties along Long Beach and Paramount boulevards and Atlantic and Cherry avenues from the city’s northern border as far south as Del Amo Boulevard. The council also decided Tuesday to add the Bixby Knolls Shopping Center to the proposed redevelopment zone.
Councilman Warren Harwood, who proposed the redevelopment zone, wants to include commercial, industrial and apartment buildings. Single-family housing would be excluded.
