Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : ‘Boil Water’ Order Issued as Precaution

The Environmental Protection Agency ordered hundreds of thousands of residents in and around the nation’s capital to boil their drinking water as a precaution because of problems at a federal filtration plant. The “boil order” came after officials feared the system might become contaminated with cryptosporidium, a protozoa that originates in animal waste.
