Plan to Attract More Capital: The government will loosen restrictions to encourage foreign capital investment, Taiwanese Minister of Economic Affairs Chiang Pin-kung said. The move is part of Taiwan’s efforts to liberalize its market as this nation prepares to enter the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade. Chiang told legislators his ministry will streamline rules for foreign investment. All foreign investment projects, except those banned by the Taiwanese government, will receive approvals without the current screening by the Investment Commission, he said.
