LETTERS : Praise for Reflections of ‘Part-Time Santa’

Share

David Groves’ piece (Dec. 9) about his experiences as Westside Pavilion’s part-time Santa Claus is enchanting and gives us much food for contemplation. As he asserts, with belief we lose a certain amount of street smarts. On the other hand, disbelief often results in the loss of the ability to dream.

Perhaps the solution lies somewhere in-between, as Groves’ sensitive experiences with children and adults revealed to me. I kept recalling the wise words of philosopher George Santayana: “What is the path to wisdom? To dream with one eye open.”
