Right Start Inc., a Westlake Village mail-order company specializing in children’s products, said its decision to discontinue its Weebok catalogue was primarily attributable for its $525,000 loss in its fiscal second quarter ended Nov. 24.
The discontinuation of the catalogue will result in a onetime write-off of $470,000. Right Start had published the catalogue of children’s apparel under an agreement with Reebok International Ltd., the athletic shoe company.
Right Start earned $204,000 in its second quarter a year earlier. Its revenue for the latest quarter was up 35%, to $13.7 million from $10.1 million.
For the nine months, Right Start lost $341,000, while its revenue rose 50%, to $29.7 million. A year before, it had net income of $494,000 on $19.8 million in revenue.
Right Start also said that it named Ronald J. Blumenthal as vice president of retail operations. Blumenthal, who most recently worked as vice president of store operations for Cost Plus Imports in Oakland, will oversee Right Start’s planned retail expansion.
