SOUTH-CENTRAL : Adult-Care Home Hearing Delayed
The operator of the Sharon Lynn Guest adult care facility won a temporary reprieve last week when a judge agreed to delay a hearing on whether to bar her from running any type of supervised care facility.
Superior Court Judge Diane Wayne agreed to postpone efforts by the state attorney general to impose a preliminary injunction against Geneva Church until Jan. 6, after Church’s attorney, David J. Morris, said he needed more time to review the case.
Church’s license to operate an adult care facility was revoked in October by the state Department of Social Services after officials found repeated health and safety violations at the Sharon Lynn Guest Home, 12040 S. Broadway.
Prosecutors opposed Morris’ request for a delay at Monday’s hearing, citing concern for the residents in Church’s care at another facility at 1925 Hobart St.
Deputy Atty. Gen. Tammy Chung said investigators found several former residents of the Sharon Lynn Guest Home at the Hobart Street facility during an inspection last month.
“I believe the residents’ health and safety are threatened based on the information I received from an investigator who went out to the new facility on Nov. 4,” Chung told Wayne. “Mrs. Church wasn’t giving them medication regularly and the refrigerator had a lock on it.” Morris did not return telephone calls seeking comment.
