Nation IN BRIEF : WASHINGTON, D.C. : Spy’s Prison Letters Had Secret Data

Jonathan Pollard put classified information in some of his letters from prison, Defense Secretary Les Aspin told the White House in urging the convicted spy not be granted leniency, a Pentagon official said. Pollard, a former Navy analyst serving a life term on his 1987 guilty plea to spying for Israel, tried to slip the information into 14 letters monitored by prison officials, the New York Times said.
