From Times Staff and Wire Reports

An 8-year-old boy was shackled to a bed and left alone in a dark apartment on Christmas Day, apparently as punishment for opening a present too soon, authorities said. Police entered the apartment in the Chicago suburb of Addison and found the boy shackled to a bunk bed by one of his ankles, DuPage County State’s Atty. James Ryan said. The boy’s mother and stepfather, Madeline and David Wasel were charged with child endangerment and reckless conduct.
