Acknowledging that the chances of finding a child safe drop sharply the longer he is missing, Los Angeles police continued the search Tuesday for a 3-year-old Indio boy who vanished Christmas Day.

“The longer it goes, it doesn’t look very good,” Detective Yvette Eggleston said. “We’re looking at 72 hours (since the disappearance). But the effort is still out there. We have six additional detectives working no other case but this.”

Officers are seeking Andrew Rodriguez, who has been missing since about 3:15 p.m. Saturday. He disappeared after going to a video arcade in the 700 block of Broadway with his father and older brother, who were in Los Angeles visiting relatives.

Jesus Rodriguez said both boys were at his side when he began to play a video game with Andrew’s brother, Jesus. “After a minute, I turned around and Andy was gone,” said Rodriguez, a cook at a Palm Desert restaurant.

An off-duty Los Angeles police officer saw a man with a boy he believes was Andrew at the Greyhound bus station Downtown about 4 p.m. Saturday, police said. Officers have not been able to find the man, investigators said.

“There have been a lot of calls, but nothing that shows a trend or that points in one direction,” Eggleston said. “We’ve had leads from Santa Rosa, Long Beach, Calexico, but nothing has panned out.”

A businessman who asked to remain anonymous has offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to the return of the boy, police said.

Andrew is 3 feet tall, weighs about 50 pounds and has brown hair and blue eyes.

When he disappeared, he was wearing a red turtleneck shirt, black pants and white high-top L.A. Gear tennis shoes.

Anyone with information about Andrew may contact Los Angeles Police Department at (213) 485-6588.
