A storm dumped up to a foot of snow in much of the East, with Maine reporting as much as 14 inches. Although Philadelphia got only an inch or two, the city of Erie on Lake Erie got up to 10 inches. Maine and New Hampshire reported four to seven inches along the coast, with 14 inches at Rockport, Me. New York City received three to four inches. The chill that moved in on Christmas Day lingered in the East and the Great Lakes. Low temperatures were 18 degrees in Albany, N.Y.; 20 in Boston; and four in Cincinnati. Snow fell across Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota and Iowa.
