Russian Musicians to Play in Concert

The Newport Center United Methodist Church will host a concert by pianist Leonid Levitsky and violinist Alexandre Brassilovsky on Friday at 7 p.m. The musicians are recent immigrants from Russia where they performed at the major concert halls.

The Costa Mesa Seventh Day Adventist Church presents a video evening each month. The video evening is usually the first Saturday of the month at 7:30 in the fellowship hall. Because of the holiday, this month’s video evening will be scheduled later in the month. Admission is free.

Father Robert DeGrandis will lead a Healing Mass on Friday at St. Angela Merici Catholic Church in Brea at 7:30 p.m. He will also conduct a workshop called the “Healing of Jesus” on Jan. 8 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at La Purisima Catholic Church, 11712 Hewes Ave., Orange.

He is the author of more than 20 books including “Renewed by the Holy Spirit,” “Healing Through the Mass,” “Coming to Life,” “To Forgive is Divine” and “Forgiveness and Inner Healing.”

The Center for Spiritual Development in Orange will offer a directed retreat Jan. 20 to 27. Cost is $278 for private room and board, $255 for shared or $140 for commuter. Registration is required by Jan. 10.

On Jan. 15 Father Wilkie Au will present a seminar called “Holistic Spirituality and Leisure” from 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at a cost of $30 including lunch. Registration is required by Wednesday.

Then on Jan. 17 and 18 a class called “Clutter or Simplicity? The Art of Simplification” will be offered from 3:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $60 for both days or $35 for one session. Registration is required by Friday.

The Rev. James Kallas will lead a two-day Bible study program beginning Friday and continuing Jan. 8 called “Weekend in the Word” at Mount of Olives Lutheran Church in Mission Viejo. He is the senior pastor at Mount of Olives Church in Santa Monica. A Phi Beta Kappa scholar and Fulbright scholar, former professor of the New Testament at California Lutheran University and former professional football player with the Chicago Bears, he has worked as a missionary in the French Cameroon and was knighted by the queen of Denmark.

Unity Community Church will offer weekly discussion groups on the book “The Quest” by Richard and Mary-Alice Jafolla beginning Wednesday. The groups will also participate in activities explained in the companion book “Adventures on the Quest.”
