Information Highway Panel Is Formed: Gearing up for a high-profile effort to overhaul the nations communications laws, Commerce Secretary Ronald H. Brown announced the formation of a private-sector advisory committee to help shape the Clinton Administration’s ambitious communications agenda. The National Information Infrastructure Advisory Council will be co-chaired by Delano Lewis, president of National Public Radio, and Ed McCracken, chief executive of computer vendor Silicon Graphics Inc. The 28-member council includes some well-known high-tech executives, such as former Apple Computer Chairman John Sculley, MCI Communications Chairman Bert Roberts and Microsoft Corp.’s advanced technology chief, Nathan Myhrvold. But it also includes Bonnie Bracey, an elementary school teacher from Virginia; Susan Herman, head of the telecommunications department for the city of Los Angeles, and Deborah Kapplan, vice president of the World Institute on Disabilities.
