CRENSHAW : Events to Celebrate King’s Birthday

The Southern Christian Leadership Conference and the Martin Luther King Jr. Legacy Assn. are sponsoring a week of activities celebrating the birthday of the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. All events are open to the public.

* Monday, 4-7 p.m.: Southern Christian Leadership Conference Open House, 4182 S. Western Ave. Tours of the building, display of King memorabilia, speakers, refreshments.

* Wednesday, 8 a.m.: Interfaith Prayer Breakfast. Co-sponsored by the National Conference of Christians and Jews. Holman United Methodist Church, 3320 W. Adams Blvd., (213) 250-8787; $15.

* Saturday, 1:30 p.m.: Elementary, junior high and high school winners of the Art and Essay Contest will be announced, and entries will be displayed and read. Department of Water and Power, 111 N. Hope St.
