Upjohn Sues BBC Over Halcion Report: The High Court in London began hearing accusations of libel brought against the British Broadcasting Corp. by the U.S. maker of the popular sleeping pill. At issue is the 1991 program “The Halcion Nightmare,” which accused Upjohn of keeping quiet about negative side effects, such as episodes of violent behavior. Upjohn maintains that the drug is safe to use as prescribed and is seeking unspecified damages for defamation. Halcion has not been approved for use in Britain. Several lawsuits filed against Upjohn in the United States contain allegations similar to those aimed at the BBC.
