The Movie: “Intersection.”

*

The Setup: Vincent Eastman (Richard Gere) can’t decide whether to remain in a non-working marriage with his business-partner wife Sally (Sharon Stone, pictured) or to leave her for a better relationship with Olivia (Lolita Davidovich).

*

The Costume Designer: Ellen Mirojnick, whose credits include “Wall Street,” “Fatal Attraction,” “Chaplin” and “Basic Instinct.”

*

The Look: Wrapped in their soft, fuzzy lives, Vincent, a successful architect, and Sally, his icy wife, show us how much fun getting up and getting dressed for work can be.

Even if you can’t afford to swath yourself in cashmere sweaters from dawn to dusk, as these two do, you’ll get tips on looking thoroughly professional without standard offices staples. There’s not a suit in sight, for him or for her.

The Palette: Non colors. They’re just more chic, you know. For Sally, it’s pleated trousers in taupe, light brown and sand; short fitted skirts, and one great-looking unconstructed cardigan-jacket. They’re worn with same-colored sweaters and the most tasteful accessories possible: printed silk scarves (ditto for colors), diamond stud earrings, diamond wedding band, crocodile belts and a large pigskin handbag.

Vincent wears charcoal-gray everything: overcoat, sport jacket, rayon challis shirts, pleated slacks and ties with barely perceptible patterns.

Olivia, the free-spirited Every Girl, wears free-spirited textured hand-knits in vibrant colors. Get it?

Inspiration: Mirojnick focused on the “internal makeup” of the principal characters. Because Sally’s not meant to be all bad, her cool, calculated clothing is done in the softest fibers. Vincent’s ambivalence is signaled by his unrelenting palette of grays. Olivia is loose, her clothes are loose, her colors are loose.

*

Hemline Watch: Sally’s are high (lower thigh), Olivia’s are low (just above the ankle).

*

Hit: Sally’s high glamour moment. At a cocktail party, she wears a short, simple sheath and a giant diamond brooch.

*

Bad Hair Day: Grace Kelly must be the inspiration for Sally’s fancy twists and knots; they’re of another time and place--like 30 years ago.

Sources: Sally’s cashmere sweaters are from N. Peal and Calvin Klein; her scarves and handbag, Hermes; her cardigan jacket, Dries Van Noten; her jewelry, Martin Precious Jewels of Beverly Hills. Mirojnick designed the sheath dress.

Vincent’s overcoat and sport jackets were designed by Armani; his cashmere sweaters, N. Peal and Paul Stuart; ties, Calvin Klein. Nat Wise in Beverly Hills made his shirts.
