Revenge had a familiar ring for a student bothered by noise in his dormitory: He rigged his computer to dial up seven college administrators four times in one night.

The stunt earned Geneva College senior Mark Schaefer a one-week suspension and 200 hours of community service.

“I think it’s a little bit stiff, but it’s better than being kicked out,” Schaefer said Thursday.

He said the dormitory’s malfunctioning security system kept sounding an alarm nearly every time the front door opened, and that two months of complaints got no results.

College President Jack White, one recipient of the calls, said the administration should have been more responsive to the problem with the door.
