Rhode Island Town Offers Lottery Tickets for Arms
Associated Press
SCITUATE, R.I. —
Police here are betting that they can make their town safer by trading lottery tickets for weapons.
Anyone who turns a weapon over to police will receive one scratch ticket, potentially worth a few dollars, and one ticket for Powerball, the multistate lottery with million-dollar jackpots.
A spokesman said any type of weapon would be accepted, including knives and brass knuckles.
The exchange begins today. Civic groups will provide the lottery tickets.
