Vladimir V. Zhirinovsky, leader of Russia’s nationalist opposition, said Sunday that his party would consider any North Atlantic Treaty Organization air strike against Serbs in Bosnia-Herzegovina to be tantamount to a declaration of war against Russia.

“As leader of the main opposition party in Russia, the party that won the elections, I want to warn all governments of Western countries that bombing any towns in Bosnia means declaring war on Russia,” he told a news conference during his visit to Belgrade.

Zhirinovsky renewed calls for the withdrawal of all foreign troops from the former Yugoslav federation. He also said international sanctions against Belgrade should be lifted.
