Inflation Rate

* I am appalled by the use of the word only to describe the 2.7% rate of inflation for 1993 (Jan. 14).

The only acceptable rate of inflation is zero! To put this into perspective, think of paying 10.95% sales tax for everything you buy in Los Angeles County. Can you imagine the uproar which would be created if a bureaucrat asked the voters to approve such a level? Yet the government can get away with a concealed insidious tax like this and newspapers are helping brainwash the public that it is reasonable and acceptable.

This is also a tax on every dollar of savings put aside for the future. At this rate of inflation, every dollar saved will be worth 50 cents in 26.7 years.

I beg of you not to assist the government in convincing us that anything over zero inflation is acceptable. This is nothing more than a hidden tax piled on top of our already horrendous load of taxes.
