Reclosing but Reopening: Shane at Newport, the eatery that opened Nov. 5 on the former Barbacoa restaurant site in Newport Beach, is closing already. But the building will be reopening shortly as a catering center for Santa Ana-based West Coast Restaurant Ventures, which also operates the Kachina, Zuni Grill, Bistro, Diva and Cafe Topaz restaurants.

West Coast maintains that the 180-seat restaurant did “respectable business” but that the building will better serve the corporation as a “special event site” for its growing catering business.

No employees will be laid off because of the change, said Harald Hermann, West Coast’s director of operations.
